As of June 2nd 2019  Pastor Ron is no longer our Senior Pastor at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church.  He is embarking on a new ministry after serving here honorably for over 22 years.

Dick Hamel

Education

Dick graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic with a BA in Sacred Music. He responded to God’s call to the ministry of worship as he was attending community college, studying for law enforcement.

Family

He is married to Valerie, also a south Florida native, whom he met while in high school.  Son Mathew and daughter Amy worked alongside their dad as they grew to adulthood.  They now serve the Lord in their areas of giftedness in the performing arts.

Pasttimes

He derives great satisfaction from being a mentor of young leaders, regardless of their area of giftedness. He believes that everyone can share in the joy of worship.  Dick is energized by time spent with people he loves – the people of God , his wife, his adult children, their spouses, and grandchildren. If you want to see Dick smile, ask him “How’s Aidan these days?”

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Master of Divinity in Christian Education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Family

Carol and Chris both consider Huntsville, AL home. They met at the University of Alabama in Huntsville Baptist Campus Ministries way back in 1989. They later were married while Chris was a student at New Orleans Seminary and after Carol finished her degree in Elementary Education. Chris served churches in Louisiana and Alabama before coming to Myrtle Grove. Carol has taught first graders at Pleasant Grove Elementary School since 2005. Their oldest daughter, Hannah, is a graduate from the University of South Alabama  with a degree in Elementary Education and currently teaches in Pensacola. Their younger daughter, Rebecca attends the University of South Alabama pursuing a degree in Nursing.

Pasttimes

Almost any kind of sport, especially when the Alabama Crimson Tide is playing.

After nearly 5 years as our Youth/Student & Recreation Minister Rev Walt Magaha has been called to be the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church here in Pensacola, Fl.  We pray that he and his family find much joy and success as their new pastor.  You can call our office to obtain Walt’s contact information.  His last Sunday with MGBC will be July 14, 2019

Educational Background –  Graduated from Elvira M. Colon Negron High school in Santa Isabel Puerto Rico in 1999, obtained a Associates degree in Drafting in Ponce Puerto Rico in 2001. I am currently pursuing a Bachelors degree as Worship Pastor at The Baptist College of Florida.

Family

I have been married for 11 years, have a 10 year old boy and a 4year old girl. I am a US NAVY combat Veteran on the OIF(Operation Iraqi Freedom)  OEF(Operation Enduring Freedom) campaign. I was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. My wife’s name is: Karla Michelle DeJesus, she was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was born and raised in a Christian family where all worshiped God through instruments and voice. She studied at the University of Puerto Rico 1 year in Chemical engineer and 4 years in Secondary Education in Biology. She currently works at the NAS Pensacola Child Development Center. My
wife’s passion is worshiping God through voice and guitar.

Pasttimes

I like to work on cars, wood crafting and play instruments like piano, guitar, saxophone and sing.
