Evelyn Ruth Barnett Barnes, 93, of Pensacola, FL, went home to be with Jesus Sunday morning, May 8, 2022 (Mother’s Day).

Mrs. Barnes was born March 28, 1929, in Bay St. Louis, MS, the daughter of Novie Lee Barnett and Eva Evelyn Smith Barnett. The oldest of five children, she was raised on a farm in Lenox, AL.

She met and married her husband, Arthur E. Barnes, in August of 1950, and lived in Castleberry, AL until they built a home in Pensacola, FL in 1953. A steadfast servant of our Living God and member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church since 1961, Mrs. Barnes served in various volunteer positions at MGBC including WMU Director (10 years), Homebound visitor and Director (17 years), Special Education Sunday School worker and teacher (10 years), Mission Study Director, Training Union teacher, as well as MGBC committees too numerous to mention. In addition, Mrs. Barnes served her community by working in the MGBC Clothing Room, and as a PTA Room Mother at Myrtle Grove Elementary School. Her love, life and ministry made an impact on her church, family, and friends that will long be remembered.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Barnes; one son, Michael Arthur Barnes and a beautiful toddler grandson Austin Barnes. She is survived by three daughters, Brenda J. Barnes-Boutwell (Herbert); Marian S. Barnes; Pamela B. Presley and daughter-in-law, Susan L. Barnes; seven grandchildren, Sarah E. Paige (Michael); Amber R. Dunford (Ryan); Summer R. Murphy (Robert); Joshua Presley (Rachel); Kendall P. Sanderson (Michael); Ryan Barnes (Savannah), and Nicholas Barnes (Laura); and seven great grandchildren, Cassidy Paige, Lainee Murphy, Ryder Murphy, Arthur Dunford, Kallie Rae Sanderson, Damien Sanderson, and Laci Sanderson.

Funeral service will be held at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 1:00 p.m., preceded by a visitation at 12:00 Noon. Senior Pastor Dr. Josh Morea will officiate. Interment will follow at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to Covenant Care Hospice or Myrtle Grove Baptist Church.

The family is grateful to Covenant Care Hospice for their tender, loving care of our mother since January 2021, and most especially to Hospice Nurse Debra and Chaplain John.
